5G Core (5GC) introduces many innovative technologies including new protocols, service-based architecture, virtualization, and network slicing. The elastic nature of the 5GC network creates new challenges for testing the core network elements, both in isolation and in end-to-end setups. This section explains the 5G core network evolution, which is often mentioned as a cloud-native core network. As illustrated in Figure 1, a cloud-native core offers the benefit of hyper-scalability, high availability, fast innovation, programmable orchestration and automation, and new business opportunity using network slicing to CSP operators. Samsung 5G Core Vision The 5G core network, with its implementation of network services being software-based as opposed to using purpose-built hardware, needs to be optimized for NFV and cloud.
